How Billson Trucks Built a Dealership for Generations

When people think of a truck dealership, sustainability isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind.

They picture powerful engines, long-haul transport, workshops, and heavy-duty equipment. But behind every truck that keeps South Africa moving, there’s an opportunity to build a business that moves our communities forward too.

When people think of a truck dealership, sustainability isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind.

At Billson Trucks, sustainability means more than reducing our environmental footprint. It’s about building a business that keeps serving our customers, supporting our people, and strengthening our communities – not just today, but for generations to come.

That thinking shaped every decision when we invested R110 million into our dealership, completed in 2018.

Home to UD Trucks, the facility was built around one goal: a modern, efficient environment that works better for our customers and our team, while operating responsibly.

Sustainability was designed in from day one – not bolted on afterwards.

Solar energy. Insulation throughout. Double-glazed reflective glass. LED lighting with motion sensors. A continuous fresh-air system. Every element works together to cut energy use and create a genuinely better environment to work in.

Water gets the same care. We harvest and store up to 200,000 litres of rainwater, and an oil-separation system in our wash bays keeps water recycling responsible and our surroundings protected.

Together, it adds up to a dealership with a significantly lower carbon footprint – and one that runs the way it should.

But sustainability isn’t only environmental. It’s about resilience.

It’s investing in people. Keeping service reliable. Creating jobs. Backing the industries that keep the Eastern Cape moving. It’s making decisions today that still make sense decades from now.

Billson Trucks has spent years 40 years keeping businesses on the road. As our industry evolves, so does our responsibility – to operate smarter, use resources wisely, and leave something worth leaving behind.

Because a sustainable future isn’t built through one initiative, or one building.

It’s built through thousands of small, thoughtful decisions – made every day, with the future in mind.

Proud of what our team built here. Even prouder of why we built it.
